Moviestar. Film noir from the Hollywood genre
In February 1983,I took over the general direction of IRA activities.
In August/September 1983 I stopped using my nom de guerre ('John Murray') because of the elevation of a lawyer called John Murray to the position of Attorney General in the South.
Convinced of the need for 'specialisation' and 'a differentiated response ', the latter as an alternative to assassination and outright terror,I suggested "intelligence-led operations".
In this schema, intelligence took priority over operations.
I gaily appointed myself A102 that being Agent of First Department, number 2 of many.
This featured in the noir film,Terminator,of 1984 and again, after my resignation of August 1988,as A101 in the sequel.
In the latter gory characterisation of the Northern Troubles, the lead character had "switched off" and become a protector.
His place had been taken by "the new model Terminator, the A101,a more advanced type than the A102".
.....
These dramatic representations of violence in locations far away from the United States are great if you wish to profit from violence, suffering and human misery but not for those with an empty place at the table many years on.
The great dearth of political initiative had its echoes in this '1983' (Terminator 2,1992).
The main actors in the dramas of that year had been formed in the 1960's and I was but a bit actor who played others ' parts.
Let us remember, gorefests apart, THE PRICE OF POLITICAL FAILURE IS DEATH AND SUFFERING in situations of immanent violence and political intransigence.
Gorefests such as depicted in US cinema noir only profit those with too much money already and most of that money goes up their noses courtesy of a mafia cocaine supplier.
